The Never Girls series by Kiki Thorpe- Ages 6-10

The Disney Fairies star in a magical all-new early chapter book series for kids ages 6-10: The Never Girls!

             Kate craves adventure and excitement.
Mia loves dresses, roses, and anything beautiful.
Lainey dreams of talking to animals.
Gabby believes in fairies more than anyone.

In a blink of an eye,  these four best friends all get their biggest wish- they're whisked off to Neverland, home to Tinkerbell and her fairy friends. The adventure of a lifetime is just beginning! But how will the Never Girls ever get home again?

Imagine that the world of fairies is a lot closer than you think. For these four friends, that dream becomes a reality, and young readers will delight in their adventures in the land of the fairies.

Jen and I both read the first five books in this series, and we both enjoyed them. Jen liked that they made the series for fans of the fairies, but the fairies are not the only focus. The girls and their friendship are the main focus of the series. Jen felt that using the fairies already known from movies for the first few books really helps bring the reader into the land of the fairies,  because the author used a character familiar to kids to introduce new ideas and characters.

I like the idea of a magical world being just beyond your backyard. For kids (or adults, in my case) that's something that is really fun to read about, and it encourages imagination. Jen and I both agreed that book #4, From the Mist, was our least favorite, so if you're going to skip one, that's the one that can be sacrificed.  Book #5, Wedding Wings, on the other hand, we both agreed was our favorite. Let's just say that the fairies come to our world this time, in a big way.

And now it's time for 'Ask a Seven-Year-Old'. Alyssa read book #1, In a Blink. She liked it a lot, and said her favorite thing about it was that the human girls (clumsies, as they are known in Never Land) became friends with the fairies.
Our verdict is- read these if you like fairies and magic!
